Police had already said that the driver of the white van that hit the bus stops in two neighborhoods is being treated for psychological problems.

A French official says a suspect who rammed his white van into two bus stops in the southern French city of Marseille, killing a woman, is being treated for psychological problems.

A press official for police headquarters in Marseille says the suspect, who has not been identified by name, is 35 years old and from the Grenoble region in eastern France.

He rammed his van into two bus stops in two neighborhoods of the Mediterranean port city, killing a woman and injuring a man. He was arrested in Marseille’s scenic Old Port neighborhood.

The official said specialists were going over the van for clues about the suspect’s motives as he was being questioned. The official could not be named in keeping with French rules.

Police and forensic experts in white suits took evidence from the bus stop. The glass walls of the bus stop where the woman was killed were shattered.

A Marseille police official confirms reports that a van has rammed two bus stops in two different neighborhoods of the Mediterranean port city, killing a woman and injuring another person.

David-Olivier Reverdy of the Alliance police union says the driver of the Renault Master van was arrested in the scenic Old Port neighborhood Monday morning.

He says it is too early to blame the incident on terrorism, but “given the times” it cannot be excluded as a motive. He says all possibilities are currently being studied.

One person was hospitalized after the driver rammed the first bus stop. A woman was killed after he rammed the second bus stop in front of a KFC restaurant.

The two bus stops in northern Marseille are about 5 kilometers (3 miles) apart. Marseille is France’s second largest city.
